Penmanship Still a Skill in the Modern Era

Although it might seem like handwriting is becoming redundant, it’s one that is still today important in numerous walks of life. A handwritten letter conveys more importance than a typewritten missive; for instance an invitation, an apology, or an application for a job.

You may think it’s a recent fashion of the masses eschewing handwriting for the keyboard, but as far back as the late 19th century, there were cries that hand-writing was uncared-for due to the typewriter. Nowadays, the blame is being connected to the ubiquitous utilisation of computer keyboards.

Nonetheless, there still exists a healthy need for penmanship skills in academia and the business world. Hand written letters are seen as far more honest, they demonstrate the author has carefully thought out his words, and they evince more respectfulness to the recipient. In this modern era of templated letters, the hand-written missive has never been more compelling.

I must admit to something. I have often been caught red-handed with my poor penmanship - made worse due to years of relying on my computer keyboard. In times where I’ve had to put pen to paper, my words have been a sloping scrawl. That’s just not professional. So how did I overcome this issue? How to solve such an issue? I wrote more often, and my handwriting improved greatly. In conclusion, it’s best to brush up on your handwriting by practise.

One more piece of advice is to get a pen you are comfortable with, with refills. Good refills include the celebrated mont blanc fountain pens range. This permits you to polish your hand writing with the same pen.
