The Importance for Buying Public Liability Indemnity

October 31st, 2008

Public liability cover is crucial for the reason that all corporations are at peril to some amount. If nothing horrific has yet happened to your business premises, will not mean that it won’t someday in the not too distant future. If a group of people are injured, or their property stolen, it’s your contractual obligation to correctly refund them. The expenditure may be enormously pricey, depending on the specific type of case.

Though, you do have numerous methods to defend yourself against this eventuality. Going for public liability cover permits you to breathe a tad easier. Even if a specific claim is very expensive, the insurance business will be there to give a safety net. Its their legal duty to keep you away from any claims & legal payments brought against you. This leaves you free to focus on actually doing business, instead of worrying about what might happen. Following are some case studies of times when public liability insurance have come in helpful.

Managers of plumbing organisations usually get the job done fast & right. Though, every now and then something may perhaps go awfully wrong. For instance, if you accidentally break a customer’s pipes whilst on the job, damaging belongings like that of personal computers and flooring, public liability indemnity will be there to pick-up the costs.

An additional example is that of a promotions organisation. If a client were to fracture an ankle in your office, even if it is not your fault, you would be held liable. Nonetheless, with public liability cover you wouldn’t have to resolve the claim whatsoever. Find the best Public Liability Insurance quote online with Insured Risks.

In a comparable case, physical damage caused to an onlooker by an employee on a construction site is the responsibility of the organisation’s manager. This kind of claim can quickly become awfully costly in fact, unless you have the correct insurance cover.

Intro To Voice over Internet Protocol — Save Money With Every Phone Call

October 30th, 2008

You’ve probably heard about Voice over Internet Protoco (abbreviated VoIP or VOIP). It is one of the hottest computer technologies today.

VoIP was developed to provide voice communication between computer users at different locations. Although still used in this manner, it’s been developed much further — into a full-fledged telephone network that allows us to place telephone calls through the Internet.

People who use VoIP can place calls to any telephone anywhere in the world. The calls are received on telephone sets connected to the Internet or Local Area Network (LAN). VoIP is already replacing some telephone networks with people and businesses canceling their traditional phone lines in favor of the cost savings of VoIP.

Background

Israeli computer enthusiasts were the first to make computer-to-computer voice connections back in 1995. That same year, the technology was further developed into a software package called Internet Phone Software. All you needed to speak with another computer user then was a modem, sound card, speakers, and microphone.

The software digitized and compressed audio signals before sending them over the Internet. These voice connections only occurred between computers equipped with the software. The original sound quality was very poor.

Technology progressed. By 1998 gateways had been established allowing PC-to-phone connections. Later that year phone-to-phone connections using the Internet for voice transmission were in place. Phone-to-phone connections still required a computer to initiate the call, but once the connection was established, callers could use a standard phone set.

That Was Then — This Is Now

There are now a variety of VoIP services available, for both residential and commercial use. Some continue to rely on PC-to-PC connections, but may also offer PC-to-phone and phone-to-phone services.

There are phones that plug into a sound card or USB port of a computer. These phones may have number pads and ringers that allow you to use them just like conventional telephones. The computer can even be bypassed completely by connecting a phone directly to a broadband modem (either DSL or cable).

How Does VoIP Work?

The first step in using VoIP is converting your voice into digital data. This is done by ’sampling’ your voice. The analog sound signal is divided into distinct steps that can be assigned number values. After your voice is digitized, the data can be compressed.

The compressed digital data is then split into ‘packets’ of about 1500 bytes that can be transferred via the Internet. In addition to voice data, the packets contain information about their origin, destination, and a time-stamp that permits a reconstruction in the exact order. When the packets arrive at their destination, the data are reassembled and converted back to analog. The receiving party then — voila — hears your voice.

A broadband Internet connection, however, is needed to speed up voice data transmission. Many households and businesses are already using broadband, either DSL or cable, which makes adding VoIP fairly simple.

So, if saving money is on your To Do list for this year, check out VoIP.

Simple Strategies for VoIP Implementation

October 29th, 2008

Business managers and owners are looking at new ways to stay ahead of the game. Current ads promise that IP Telephony is the answer to many of today’s business dilemmas. While technology can be used to enhance a business model, technology for technology sake is never the answer. If it has been determined that IP Telephony is one of the tools to boost productivity and customer service; there are ways to purchase that technology.

Years ago, many businesses utilized Centrex lines to reduce large capital expenditures for telephone equipment. This meant that the business kept no main telephone equipment on site, it simply “rented” lines and telephones for each of their phone locations. The goal was to enhance features while reducing cost. However, the opposite became true when new and less expensive competitors were able to compete with the local phone companies. A company that was in business for 10+ years could have easily purchased a phone system of their own a couple times over. Today, the phone company and other IP service providers are offering the next generation of this concept - - Hosted IP or IP Centrex.

The hosted IP/IP Centrex services do offer some very nice benefits including very little or no capital outlay for new phones and features, plus a highly flexible disaster recovery plan for incoming communication.

Some questions that should be asked before instituting a contract for Hosted IP/IP Centrex are as follows: 1.Are the additional features going to enhance business practices? 2.Can the provider effectively deliver 9-1-1 calls? 3.If the goal is monthly payments rather than a large capital purchase - is there a lease option or other type of solution that would provide equity when the term is attained? 4.Is the IP Centrex vendor going to be able to service the contract until completion? Remember that even though a vendor may be new to this type of service, if they have proven to stand by other service roll-outs it may not be a huge risk. 5.Are there short term contracts available? Try to obtain a contract that has a business downturn clause that will allow a reduction of lines so payment is not required for phones no longer need. 6.Is there an installation fee? And if so will this fee combined with the monthly payments exceed a new system purchase?

Many people in the business community today utilize digital telephone systems by a variety of manufacturers. Some manufacturers such as CISCO, 3-Com or Interactive Intelligence only offer IP Telephony. However, others such as NEC, Inter-Tel, Toshiba, Avaya, etc. offer a combination of both digital and IP Telephony or all of one or the other. There are inherent differences between the two technologies. Digital Technology 1.Uses cables that are separate from the computer system. 2.Does not have to run on CAT5 or CAT6 cable. 3.Typically has a telephone cabinet with a processor and separate circuit boards for connection of lines and phones. 4.Very reliable

IP Technology 1.Can run on the same cable as the computer. 2.Must be connected to a minimum of a CAT5 cable even if it does not share with the computer on the desk. 3.Stores system software on a server, in a router or in a traditional telephone cabinet. 4.Competes with bandwidth on the data network.

IP Telephony has benefits that are great for some companies and irrelevant for others. 1.Ability to connect remote workers using a cable modem, DSL line or other high speed internet connection. 2.Customized call routing based upon inbound caller identification, status ID for callers (known as presence). 3.Advanced custom applications. Attendance and student record review in a school district, database integration for car dealership sales and service departments, inventory control and updates for manufacturing companies. 4.Desk to Desk video at a very inexpensive rate. 5.One network to maintain.

While there are benefits to this technology, there are also things to watch out and prepare for (This is just a partial list). *Now that the phone system is part of the data system it is vulnerable to viruses and other spy-ware threats. *Warranty times are generally far less traditional phone systems so the on-going maintenance costs may start 90 days following installation. *IP phones require power at each phone - either by a local power outlet or data switch equipped with Power over Ethernet (PoE) capability. *Quality of Service (QoS) is vital to prioritize voice over data calls. *IP phone have more stringent distance limitations. *A ten year life cycle cannot be anticipated. *Analog lines (plain old telephone lines) and analog phones, fax, modems, etc. are often challenging and costly to connect to a full IP system. *Data cable (minimum CAT5 rating) must be available at each phone location. *The environment must be conducive to the IP equipment. Certain manufacturing floors require refrigerated and sealed cabinets for their PC’s. The same would be required for an IP phone set. *Internal support departments may need to be structured. If there are separate support groups for voice and data they may need to be combined or one eliminated. This assessment is extremely important to the success of an IP Telephony project. Do not overlook this important aspect before making a purchasing decision. Uneducated decisions are recipes for disaster in any project. Don’t rush into a change of this magnitude. Take the time to assess the business functions, the existing network infrastructure and support groups, and make sure the environment and resources are in place this type of change.

Wireless and Mobile Multimedia Technology

October 27th, 2008

Wireless and Mobile Multimedia Technology Bluetooth:

Bluetooth is a short-range radio link intended to replace the calble(s) connecting portable and/or fixed electronic devices. Key features are robustness, low complexity, low power and low cost [1]. There are already similar standards in this market, such as IrDA, HomeRF and IEEE 802.11 family. Bluetooth is designed to offer some unique advantages that none of the others can provide. However, as a result of the lower data rate and transmission range, Bluetooth offers much lower cost per node (approximately 5 ~ 10% of HomeRF and IEEE 802.11). So it is more suitable for applications involving low data rate (data and voice), small number of devices (8 at maximum), low power consumption and short range (up to 10 meter), such as PC-to-peripheral networking, home networking, hidden computing, data synchronization (such as between PC and PDA), mobile phone devices, and future smart devices or entertainment equipment. Bluetooth is a new system that connect electronic devices via wireless radio technology .this means that hands free device can now communicate directly with the phone without having wires plugged in. The range of Bluetooth is up to 10m-so when you get in the car ,you can leave your mobile in your pocket or handbag and be instantly hands free!

Why is called Bluetooth? Harald Bluetooth was the king of Denmark during the late 900s .Harald united Denmark and part of Norway into a single kingdom and also introduce Christianity into Denmark. He also left a large monument ,the Jelling rune stone ,in memory of his parents. In 986 during a battle with his son,Svend Forkbeard,Harald was killed. The name Bluetooth was chosen to indicate the importance the part companies from the Baltic region .have played in the communication industry, although it gives no indication of how the system and technology operates .

VoIP and local phone service

October 27th, 2008

With VoIP technology entering the mainstream, it brings the possibilities or huge profits for the companies that provide the service. The current promise of cost savings is driving more and more residential and business users to investigate this technology. But the local telephone companies are not going to give up customers without a fight.

There is a current mandate by the US federal government that all VoIP providers offer E911 service. The initial blocking of this information was with the public switched telephone network maintained by the major telephone companies

The next stumbling block is ‘naked DSL’ or DSL access without local phone service. This service is rare, but without it a residence would not be able to use VoIP as their primary phone service mechanism. You see, DSL is running over your existing phone line provided by your local telephone company. Drop your local phone service and you’ll probably drop your broadband DSL access as well. (Cable broadband access is a viable solution here and the increased cost in cable access should be offset by the reduction on your monthly phone bill)

These are just two fronts in the battle over VoIP. Should companies be compensated for the infrastructures they build? Should E911 service be ‘free’ and offered as a public service? What about the existing phone service run into our homes? Who pays for those lines to be laid and hooked into the public switched telephone network?

There really are no easy answers to the questions above. The phone companies are not about to give up customers without a fight. They have years and billions of dollars spent in building one of the most reliable communications networks ‘currently’ known to us.

Is VoIP the next step in the evolving communications industry? How will this play out with phone companies offering internet and TV services and cable providers offering phone and internet service? The line is being blurred and yet the technology pushes forward.

I don’t have the answers, only questions. I know how I’d like to see it all play out, but alas, there is no Nirvana and no, it would seem we all cannot get along. Not when there’s literally billions of dollars at stake. There will be winners and losers as this war rages on, but it is my hope that we, the end users, will, in the end, be better for it. After all, we’ve been down this path many times before and it’s turned out ok.

Remember the advent of the PC and where we’ve gone since then? Remember the first bulky cellular phones vs. what’s available today? Yes, TV’s, radios, computers, phones the list goes on. Technology advances will continue to push us into new directions. I’m sure that in the end, VoIP will be as commonplace as the home computer.

We can leverage this technology today in a cost effective manner. Like any technology how you implement VoIP will make the difference. Whether you’re a residential or business user, there can be an immediate benefit. Check with your communications broker to find out if your existing phone needs can be met cost effectively with VoIP.

Engagement Rings Essentials

October 23rd, 2008

Engagement rings encompass in them the sense of love, commitment and fidelity, they are given at a special moment in the lives of two people, promising an eternal love and honor between the two.

So you are now faced with the first decision of your new life, it is clear that making a proposal is far more important than anything material, your marriage proposal is going to be remembered for a long time, and will be told over and over again to all of the closest and dearest people in your life. A marriage proposal is something to consider and reflect about.

While most people know that the intention of inviting someone to share your life with forever is the most precious thing a men can offer, many disregard the importance of symbolism in the act itself and the gift that comes with it. An engagement ring is a sign that a promise has been made and that a time of significant change will arrive in the life of the person wearing it. Do not forget that most woman keep their engagement ring on their hands long after the marriage, sometimes on the same finger as the wedding ring.

Most people choose a diamond ring as an engagement ring, this means that you need to learn a thing or two about diamonds before actually going to the shop to choose one. Understanding diamonds requires knowledge of the basic four elements, the color, cut, clarity and carat.

Color is the result of the composition of a diamond and it can not be changed, meaning that a diamond does not change or can not be changed into any other color . When a jeweler is describing the color of a diamond they are referring to the presence or absence of color in white diamonds. Because a diamond with no color allows maximum light to pass through, colorless diamonds are preferred for their sparkle.

The common thing to think about when thinking of a diamond, is the way they shine and the different facets they have (turning a diamond in light produces this affect which indicates the cut), the cut refers to a diamonds reflective quality. This is very important when shopping for an engagement ring.

Carat is the diamond industry standard, it is a unit of weight to measure diamonds. When speaking of one carat you are in fact speaking of 200 milligrams of weight. The carat itself is made of one hundred particular parts called points. These points in the carat are the ones you refer to when talking about points, for example 150 points in would be one and a half carats.

Carat is the unit of weight by which diamonds are measured. One carat is equal to 200 milligrams. A carat is divided into 100 segments called points. 150 points would equal one and a half carats. The clarity is the factor of the inner quality of the diamond, since during the formation process some inclusions occur in most diamonds you will have to compromise for some kind of decreased clarity. Engagement rings are not expected to be perfect rings, with perfect diamonds, it is normal that a diamond on a engagement ring would not be flawless.

Now that you know the basics of diamonds you can start shopping for the engagement ring, traditional engagement rings have a huge rock (”look at the size of this rock!”) on them, it is not necessarily the best way to go, try to think of the woman you are buying it for, what is her favorite color, does she have any sensitivity to any kind of metal, what is her opinion of diamonds and how flashy would she like her hand to be.

Do not be afraid to ask the jeweler questions, it is not every day that you will be shopping for an engagement ring, and speak your mind.

Good luck buying your engagement ring, and I wish you a life full of happiness and glitter, just like a brilliant diamond engagement rings has…

Diamonds and Denim

October 19th, 2008

It may come as a shock to those of us with more traditional tastes, but the elusive ideal of “class” can be achieved through unusual ensembles - such as those which combine diamonds and denim. In fact, you don’t have to wear purely expensive stuff to look classy. You can be creative and quirky and at the same time show sophistication.

Diamonds and denim? Seriously? Yes, indeed! It may seem a little far-fetched for the more conventional of us, but this unique combination of high society and working class fashion brings out a grand mix of glamour and grit. As a diamond symbolizes the woman’s finesse and nobler aspirations, denim represents the everyday woman’s readiness to get “down and dirty,” and to get her dainty yet strong hands soiled, should the need arise.

The dark colors of most articles of clothing made of denim are accentuated by the light caught in the facets of diamond jewelry. And even if denim items are washed into lighter colors, the stark bright flashes of diamond only serve to enhance the lightly feminine colors upon the rough fabric. In fact you can mix and match diamonds with basically any other fabric - diamonds and silk, diamonds and lace, diamonds and satin. Just as the diamond looks good with any metal base, when it is used on jewelry, the clarity inherent in the diamond ensures that it will look good with any sort of apparel.

But the diamonds and denim combination comes with a unique appeal. It brings out the dual nature of the woman: strength and delicacy, roughness and gentleness. This combination works for intense, down-to-earth women who won’t compromise their style, and yet are open to displaying their more sensitive sides.

Another thing represented by denim is recumbence, the utterly casual, relaxed look. Denim, after all, is barred from most coat-and-tie establishments, and other gatherings that require tight dresses and un-flashy attire - in other words, events and places that require you to be uptight. On the other hand, diamonds are not frequently spotted in rough-and-tumble places and events, such as monster truck rallies, outdoor picnics and mosh pits. But why deny yourself the opportunity to create a pleasing blend of these two contrasting atmospheres? It is when a woman deviates from the norm that she is best able to express her individuality and creativity.

And if you don’t believe me, you can always ask exquisitely fashionable creatures like Sela Ward, Alexis Bledel and Sports Illustrated model Melissa Keller. They both once attended the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in 2004, hosted by Judith Ripka and Cotton Incorporated, wearing their favorite jeans and accessorized by elegant diamond jewelry. If you wish to bring out your more unconventional “classy” side, go for diamonds and denim!

Jewelry Buying Guide

October 19th, 2008

The next time you go out shopping for a nice piece of jewelry you may wish to consult a jewelry guide. This article will list some quick and simple things to keep in mind when purchasing jewelry but its best to thoroughly do your research on a specific kind of jewelry you intend to purchase.

Precious metals are commonly sold in jewelry. You’ve got gold, silver, platinum, copper and even titanium. When purchasing gold or silver be sure to ask what carat it is. Gold is a soft metal and mixed with other types of metals like copper and silver to make it harder. The usual carat amounts for gold are, 10, 14, 16, 18 and 20kt. Ten carat gold is cheaper than twenty carat, but the higher carats will be softer and your jewelry can be easily damaged. Some gold chains are only gold plated and you’ll want to clarify what you are getting before you buy.

When out buying precious or semi precious stones take your time to find out if you are getting the right thing for the right price. Diamonds are priced based on a system of grades involving, color, cut, clarity, and carat. You may be getting a really large carat diamond for a good price, but it may not have good clarity. Clarity is determined based on how many flaws can be seen in the diamond. A diamond with more flaws is less valuable and can even break easily.

There are other important guidelines you should look up for each type of jewelry and the materials it is made of before you buy. For example, it can be very important to make sure your ring can be altered in sized down the road because you may gain or lose weight.

Watches and Water Resistance

October 18th, 2008

There is much confusion and not a few myths surrounding the topic of water resistance in watches. The purpose of this article is to bring clarity to this subject for the sake of consumer education.

Several features contribute to the water resistance of a watch. First is the gaskets, or 0 rings. These are made of rubber, nylon or teflon. They form the watertight seals at the joints where the crystal, case back and crown meet the case. Chronographs also have gaskets at the pushers.

Further, water resistant watch cases are sealed with a quick hardening liquid.

The material of the case and its thickness are also large factors which help to determine how well a watch can safely withstand underwater pressure. Generally, to be sturdy enough, the case must be made of steel or titanium or a gold plated steel case. Solid gold cases can be water resistant, too, if there is sufficient thickness.

A screw down case back is more water resistant than one which simply pushes or snaps in. A feature of many divers’ watches, the screw in crown, helps to prevent the watch-stem hole from leaking water into the case. When screwed down a water tight seal is formed.

Always bear in mind that the various levels of water resistance are strictly theoretical. These rating, expressed in meters, refer to the depth at which a watch will keep out water if both the watch and the water are motionless. Naturally, such conditions cannot be met outside lab testing machines. In the real world, just the movement of one’s arm through the water dramatically increases pressure on the watch.

Am I saying that there is no such thing as water resistance for watches and it’s all just a big con game? No, but it is best to follow the guidelines below, which are suggested by most responsible watch manufacturers at the indicated ratings:

30 meters/100 ft.: Should not be worn for swimming or diving, but will will withstand splashes of water or rain

50 meters/165 ft.: Suitable for swimming in shallow water

100 meters/330 ft.: Suitable for swimming and snorkeling

150 meters/500 ft.: Suitable for snorkeling

200 meters/660 ft.: Suitable for skin diving

Diver’s 150 meters/500 ft.: Meets ISO standards and is suitable for scuba diving

Diver’s 200 meters/660 ft.: Meets ISO standards and is suitable for scuba diving

Obviously, it is not recommended to swim or dive while wearing your watch unless it has at least a screw down crown and a rating of at least 100 meters.

Caring for your water resistant watch cannot be overlooked, either. You should never wear it in a sauna, a hot tub or even a hot shower. The extreme heat causes the metal parts and rubber gaskets to expand at different rates, creating small openings through which water may penetrate. As with the human body, a sudden temperature change is particularly harsh. So, if you chance to wear your watch in something like a hot tub, be careful not to dive into a cold pool after.

Salt is corrosive. Therefore, after swimming in salt water, immediately rinse the watch in flowing fresh water. Also, if the watch has a rotating bezel, turn the bezel several times while rinsing to prevent salt buildup and corrosion of the bezel ring.

Heavily chlorinated water can damage your watch as can some chemicals. Spray-on perfumes and hairsprays can work into the seams and damage the gaskets. The watch’s finish can be marred in the same way.

There are water resistant leather straps, too, but in general leather straps do not fare as well if frequently exposed to water. A metal bracelet or a rubber or nylon diver strap is recommended.
